Mastery Based Assessment
Overview
Greenwich High School is required by the State of Connecticut to have a 1 credit Mastery Based Assessment. In Greenwich Public Schools, we use our Vision of the Graduate as the basis for this assessment.
Over the course of 4 years, students are guaranteed to participate in experiences through their classes, which will allow them to demonstrate mastery of these capacities within their core academic and elective classes. Assessment is embedded into pre-existing projects to capture student mastery of critical skills, without putting an additional burden of work on our students. Student mastery will be scored by their teachers using common rubrics and documented in the Aspen Student Management system. Once students have demonstrated mastery with a minimum of 20 overall points they will be awarded one credit towards graduation.
Students who attend GHS for four years will need to earn a minimum of 20 points. Students not here the full four years will need points proportionate to years here.
- 4 years require 20 points
- 3 years require 15 points
- 2 years require 10 points
- 1 year requires 5 points
Three of the personal capacities identified in the Vision of the Graduate are not specifically measured through a rubric, but are the topic of discussion throughout our 4 year Advisor Base program, in addition to being supported by classroom and other school experiences.
