Wellness/Health and Safety Education

Program Overview:

The mission of the Greenwich High School Wellness/Health and Safety Education Program is to teach students the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle. To that end, we provide all students with a challenging range of educational opportunities in safe, supportive environment that fosters respect for self and others.

Wellness Curriculum Opt-Out Letter and Form

Health Education is a critical component of a student’s well-rounded education. Certified Health Education Teachers deliver planned, on-going, and systematic instruction that enhances the wellbeing of their students. This curriculum provides students with a foundation for a lifetime of health, wellness and character development.  It also provides students with the opportunity to develop and practice the following lifelong health skills:  accessing accurate health information, managing healthy behaviors, analyzing internal and external influences, communicating effectively, making healthy and safe decisions, planning short-term and long-term goals, and advocating for self and others.

Our Board approved, comprehensive K-12 Health Education Curriculum complies with our CT State mandates for: Health and Safety Education- Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) Section 10-16b; Alcohol, Nicotine or Tobacco and Drugs- CGS Section 10-19(a); and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome- CGS Section 10-19(b).

In accordance with Connecticut law and Greenwich Board of Education policy, parents have the right to exempt their children only from the following specific portions of our Health Education Curriculum:

  • HIV/AIDS Education -- Grades:  8 & 10 (English -- Español)
