Golf - Boys

Program Overview:

As coaches, we pride ourselves in helping our student-athletes become the best they can be in the classroom and in their sport. We will provide the support necessary to help our golf student-athletes reach their goals and strive for uncompromised excellence.

The Varsity & JV Golf teams at Greenwich High School have a history of continued success primarily because our student athletes are committed to carrying on the historic traditions. We play with pride and a responsibility to represent the school, community, peers and ourselves in a positive, supportive, respectful and competitive manner.

Time Commitment:

The work involved to compete at the highest level is time consuming.  Golf at Greenwich High is not just a weekly sport, expectations are that our student athletes spend quality time on the weekends sharpening their skills.

The team(s) compete Monday thru Thursday after school locally and traveling to other golf courses in Fairfield County. In a typical season we will play 16 regular season matches and if fortunate continue into the postseason.  The season begins in mid August and can extend into mid October.

Practice and or matches typically begin around 3:30, the length of time may vary but plan on a 3-4 hour time period per day.

2023 Fall Season Dates:

Students should join the sportsYou group for their sport as soon as they register for the season. Tryout information and dates for matches are on sportsYou.

Pre-Season Conditioning:

Golf fitness is a topic that is not given enough attention in regards to game improvement. There are a number of ways that a golf-specific workout plan can improve your performance on the course.  A golfer's body may have limitations that can affect the golf swing, getting properly screened can be an impactful tool to improve your game. Please contact Coach Santilli for more information.

Expectations before the season are the following:

  • Practice hitting balls before tryouts.
  • Work on flexibility, cardio and weight training.
  • Be prepared to compete against other players
  • Be prepared to play in all weather conditions.

Requirements:

All players who are planning on competing for a spot on the GHS golf team will need an official USGA Handicap. If you're a member of a private club you may get one through the club, otherwise you may sign up on GHIN.com

The golf team is very competitive; we are looking for a few players who compete in local and national golf tournaments. The team is for players who play golf regularly and have a passion for improving their skills outside of the program. Due to the number and limited resources this is unfortunately not a team for beginners to learn the sport.

Any questions, please email Coach Santilli.
