Girls Basketball

Program Overview:

The Greenwich High School Girls Basketball program strives to teach the game of basketball to student athletes and compete safely at the highest level possible.  Sportsmanship and respect of the game, opponent, teammate, spectator and coach is a top priority of this program.  Anything less WILL NOT be tolerated.  The two main goals of this program are to: firstly, develop respectful young women who will represent their family and school with class on and off the court; and secondly, to teach and improve basketball skills, strategies and fitness while competing at the local and state level.

 

 

Tryouts:

The coaching staff will do their best to pick the best players that compete for Greenwich High School.  Varsity players are expected to have the basic skills and some advanced knowledge to compete at the varsity level.  Junior Varsity and Freshman players are selected by their skills, as well as their potential and determination at tryouts.  Players will be evaluated on conditioning, defense, ball handling, rebounding, shooting, attitude and overall game performance.

In order to tryout you must register on the athletic website and have up to date physical turned into the nurse.

Team Rules and Expectations:

  1. Players are expected to attend ALL practices and games (including holiday breaks if applicable.  See calendar)

  2. ALL athletes must be academically eligible in order to participate in practices/games.  Any athlete with a C- or less will be placed on academic probation until grades are raised.

  3. Missing class/tardies will result in loss of playing time.

  4. Excessive absences from class or practice will result in removal from team.

  5. No School = No Practice/Game.

  6. Students are require to have basketball sneakers

Pre-Season Conditioning:

Any athlete interested in trying out for the season can complete the suggested self paced workout.
