Girls Basketball

Program Overview:

The Greenwich High School Girls Basketball program strives to teach the game of basketball to student athletes and compete safely at the highest level possible.  Sportsmanship and respect of the game, opponent, teammate, spectator and coach is a top priority of this program.  Anything less WILL NOT be tolerated.  The two main goals of this program are to: firstly, develop respectful young women who will represent their family and school with class on and off the court; and secondly, to teach and improve basketball skills, strategies and fitness while competing at the local and state level.


Tryouts:

The coaching staff will do their best to pick the best players that compete for Greenwich High School.  Varsity players are expected to have the basic skills and some advanced knowledge to compete at the varsity level.  Junior Varsity and Freshman players are selected by their skills, as well as their potential and determination at tryouts. 

  1. Coachability, Attitude and Teamwork
  2. Effort and hustle
  3. Fundamentals of shooting, passing and layups
  4. Dribbling and overall ball handling
  5. Post moves
  6. Defense (positioning, footwork, grit, etc.)
  7. Rebounding
  8. Overall play and in-game IQ in 1v1, 2v2, 3v2, 3v3, 5v5
  9. Timed distance run and timed sprints

Tryout Dates: Monday Dec 2nd 4:30pm - 7:00pm (all grades)

                         Tuesday Dec 3rd 4:30pm - 7:00pm (all grades)

                          Wednesday Dec 4th 4:30pm -7:00pm (all grades)

 Practice Starts:  Thursday Dec 5th 3:30pm - 5:15pm (all grades)

                              Friday Dec 6th  3:30pm - 5:15pm (all grades)

                               Saturday Dec 7th Varsity first Scrimmage vs Derby HS  (JV and Frosh no practice)

                               Sunday Dec 8th  No Practice

In order to tryout you must register on the athletic website and have up to date physical turned into the nurse.

Pre-Season Conditioning:

Any athlete interested in trying out for the season can complete the suggested self paced workout.
