Swimming and Diving - Boys
Program Overview:
To provide the best possible opportunity for swimmers/divers to work toward their potential as young athletes and to generate a cohesive TEAM experience for the group.
Swimming candidates for the team will attend an initial set of workouts generally lasting two weeks followed by a set of time trials to determine those who qualify for the team. Also, after two weeks diving candidates will be selected on the basis of the number of candidates and the "list" of dives they are able to perform. Generally candidates are expected to have had some prior experience in competitive swimming or diving.
In the past, the team has been divided into two practice groups; the more experienced and accomplished athletes in a Varsity A group; the remaining athletes in a Varsity B group.
Time Commitment:
Practices are daily, Monday through Saturday. On school days, the first practice will usually begin a half hour after school ends, the second practice will begin two hours later. On Saturday and other non-school days, practices will usually be in the morning. Weight training sessions are also part of the program, with two sessions during the school week and one following the Saturday practice. Dual meets are generally during the week after school. Championship competition may involve evening or Saturday events.
Pre-Season Conditioning:
Participation on club swimming teams, water polo teams or diving teams during the off season is recommended.
Equipment:
"Speedo" type suit or jammers and swim goggles are all that is required of a swimming candidate.
