Academics

Greenwich High School is a four-year comprehensive high school serving approximately 2700 students of ethnic and cultural diversity. Students are randomly assigned to one of five houses. These five houses adjoin a one-acre enclosed area, the Student Center, which serves as cafeteria, meeting hall and place to spend free time. A large Media Center supports all learning programs of the school and helps students become lifelong learners by providing a wide variety of information, resources and technology. The School’s philosophy of freedom with responsibility encourages students to make decisions affecting both their study and leisure time. Recent national surveys identify Greenwich as one of the top high schools in the United States, offering over 350 different courses and a wide variety of co-curricular activities. The school fields forty-two varsity teams which have won numerous county, state and regional championships. Students and teachers consistently earn recognition and high honors not only for academic achievement, but also for artistic, dramatic, and musical accomplishments.

The GHS Course of Study Guide lists a wealth of classes, each with unique opportunities and challenges. This guide outlines courses needed for graduation and elective options.  Our hope is that with the proper assistance from parents/guardians and school counselor, students will not only engage in classes that meet graduation requirements, but will also pique personal interests and allow students to pursue unique passions.
